Why we carry this
Tenugui are traditional Japanese cotton hand towels with a history of quiet usefulness. You dry your hands with them. You wrap gifts. You hang them on a wall and suddenly your room feels like it belongs to someone more interesting than you.
Izumimomen, a weaving tradition from the Izumi region, has been making these things for generations - soft, absorbent, durable in the way that matters. This one has a sardine on it. Not ironically. Just a straightforward sardine, because sardines are part of the story along the Japanese coast, and someone decided that was worth printing. The design has that quality you find in the best everyday objects: it doesn't try too hard.
Thirty-three by ninety centimeters. Big enough to be useful, small enough to fit in your life without taking over. And they improve with washing, which is the kind of promise that feels almost personal. They soften. They become more themselves. There's something hopeful about that.
